Android gps drivers

Hi peoples can you help a non geek ? l bought a Android 4.0 tablet and l wish to run Gps mapping on it, The unit itself does not have a gps so l bought a plug in type And its says just plug it on and away you go...yea right, Do l need software ?installed on my unit ? or is it a case of sorry sunshine no go

 

If it doesnt' have built in gps, you would have to buy a gps specifically designed to work with that tablet. Which tablet did you buy, and what gps model are you trying to interface?

 

Thankyou for your quick reply ,The tablet is a 4.0/4.1 Android ZTPAD And the gps is a gps-206 gps protocol -nmea-0183 baud rate 9600 it has two lights on it power and Ant. When l plug it in to the unit the power light comes on and the green Ant light blinks, l did try it on my laptop and it works great

 

Ok, so you need to find a gps application for your droid then, http://play.google.com/ Is the android market, you would need to find an app that takes the input from the gps. The built in gps app probably wont work for you that way.

 

Yes l have been looking at Google play with no joy because l really dont know what l need

 

Everything im finding is meant for internal gps only. Did you see if yours has built in gps? Unless im googlign the wrong model it should have built in gps.

 

No it has no inbuilt gps that why l was using the plugin type

Yes l did see that one on my laptop when l tried to find it on the tablet l cant find it l will try harder thakyou for all your help l shall post a reply and let you know how l go

I assume since you plug it in, it has a USB connector. Try this:

It's a demo so it only works 10 minutes at a time. If it works, it will cost you $2.62 US to get the full version. It's not free but cheaper than buying a dedicated GPS or a new tablet.
