Annoying little glitch/problem..

It sometimes happens that I can go into different internet sites without any problems, browse them, and then all of a sudden when I want to go into another one, I get an ISP instead of - for example your address - at the bottom, so the site takes ages to come up, or I get a message that the site is unavailable or something like that, and the only thing I can do is just to restart, then everything is fine again.

Any idea what causes this annoying little problem? Look, it isn't a major train smash that it drastically affects my surfing the net - more of a nuisance factor than anything else. Nonetheless, I'd still like to know why this happens from time to time.

No, I'm not on firefox or anything unusual - I'm just on XP and IE7, if that is of any help.

Do you use any (or have installed in the past) any software that hides your IP?

Also, when you say that all you can do is to restart, you mean all you can do to be able to access a website again?

 

Yes, it's like giving it a kick in the backside to wake it up again, if one can use that comparison - as I said, it's just a bit of a nuisance - nothing major, but can be annoying at times. And no - no software to hide my IP. Ah well, as long as it doesn't develop into anything major, I suppose I can live with it!

 

OK, try this:
The next time it happens,
Go Start->Run and type cmd.exe
A command line will open. Type in "ping" and the name of the site you cannot access, it should be like that:
C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]>ping forums.majorgeeks.com
