Okay, Who all hates popups?? I do...

I have this problem w/ these really annoying popups that started a long while ago and every time 1 of these popups come up it minimizes every other program so I have to see what it says (although i dont remember what it says, which doesn't help) but this is not a normal popup, this is like a cheaply made program made to annoy the hell out of everyone (and belive me, IT WORKS!). Now I have noticed this program, INETINFO.EXE, and it would be my educated guess :p that this would be the problem program Am I right? The problem I ran into was when I try to close this program with Ctrl/Alt/Del it just revives itself. This is realy realy making me angry and I would bow down to you if you can help me with my problems, and yes, I do have others :D. \

    TY, mEcroneo

MECRO.......Don't rule out a possible virus either. Do a virus-scan of your system, using up-to-date definitions. You DO have an anti-virus program, right? If not, we can verbally abuse you later, if you want. LOL But seriously.......If you don't, you can get a free online scan at McAfee. NOTHING should be popping up on your computer, without you're commanding it. Aside from pop-up ads at web sites, security dialogue boxes, and of course the infamous Messenger in WindowsXP.

What I think many people forget and it is clearly mentioned in MA's link is that the Messanger service has NOTHING to do with MSN Messanger....
Unless you are on a network and your admin uses pop-up messages to communicate...turn it off, disable it.....

That 's of course assuming that MECRONEO DOES have XP.
If he don't have XP, it ain't the "messenger thing".
We need the operating system info, to be accurate on this one.
    Let us know MECRONEO :/

Well... disabling the Messenger service WILL help, but as I've read on Microsoft's site, this doesn't solve the problem, it mearly patches the hole allowing messages to be delivered through the messenger service running on your computer. Microsoft suggests enabling a firewall, because if you are open to pop-ups of these kinds, you might be open to other vulnerablilities as well... I don't like Microsoft anymore than you do, but hey... might wanna enable a firewall, because that's actually GOOD advice. Strange that Microsoft addresses this problem when they are the ones that implemented the service to begin with, allowing this sort of thing to happen... oh well... heheheheh.

The Messenger Service is a ligitimate and used service for networked systems it allows alerts to be sent to pcs on the network and since NT 2K and XP generally are used by corporations it makes sense to have this option available.

As said in previous posts it can easely disabled by disabling the messenger service if your not on a network as the spammers have started to exploit this service.... SO its the spammers that are in the wrong not MS this time ( for those of you who dont like Microsoft...WHY do you still run their software?? )

Withing your firewall to be extra safe if you as well as disable the messenger service... also Block NetBIOS ports 135, 137, 138. and 139 this will compleatly stop traffic.
