Annoying Recurring Browser Update Message

    For the last several days I have been getting a message insisting on updating my browser IE 11 64-bit, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. This is not a pop-up, it opens in a separate window. In fact it opened when I was trying to log in to this site. I have looked on line and have not seen a satisfactory solution to this problem.

    Can someone offer a fix for this?

    I'm running Windows 32 and 64 bit Home Premium and Pro.
    IE 11 is listed as an optional update on all the computers. (Of course I do not use IE to browse so you might be getting this popup when you have the browser open. If that's the case, there is a different thing to look at).

    Open Windows Update then Change Settings (in the left pane).
    Post a screenshot of the settings so I can view what you have selected.

    If you only get the popup when you have IE open to browse, do this: Click Help, then about and be sure the box in front of install new versions automatically is unchecked/unticked.

    This is not a legitimate update. I am under attack, it seems, by a number of websites requesting me to install software I don't want. Some are updates to browser, others are not. Example websites:
    123srv.com
    w2.inetdownloadermanager.com
    opensoftwareupdater.com
    ncr.citickets.net/sd/apps/fusionx/...

    Is there a firewall that can be set to block specific websites? Apparently Norton Internet Security can't do it
