Annoying things about my PC that I Hope can be Fixed!

Hi my first post! There are some things wrong (well weird) about my computer that I was hoping people could help me with. Here goes:

1) I have downloaded YAHOO! messenger but I cannot see any incoming text. People can see my text. When I tried the help option, the computer told me this:
*Click the Tools menu on your Internet Explorer toolbar, select Internet *Options, and select the Security tab.
*Click the Internet (globe) icon and select the Custom Level button.
*Scroll down to Scripting and make sure that Active scripting, Allow paste operations via script, and Scripting of Java applets are all enabled.

This was from the YAHOO! messenger help website.
Good advice but unfortunately for me I cannot click the 'Custom level' botton. It is not highlighted, therefore I cannot do anything.

2) Secondly, when I access my YAHOO e-mail, I can receive incoming mail, however I cannot compose nor delete any e-mails. I think this problem is similar to the first one.

3) An annoying side bar keepes cropping up at the side of my screen! I think it is an 'Elite Sidebar' as when I go to 'View' and 'Explorer' this option is checked. I uncheck it and it goes away...but keeps returning! Aaargh!

There are actually a few more annoying little things with my PC that I cannot seem to shift but perhaps I'll save them for later!

Operating system would be helpfull in diagnosing the problem. Sounds like an XPSP2 problem.

Welcome to Major Geeks. 'Elite Sidebar' is adware and it sounds like you might have a few more, going by some of your problems.

I would go here, http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 and follow all the advice, it will give you a good start and programs in the removal of spyware. If you run into problems and need to post a question you have the hardest part out of the way, just be sure to follow the instructions, it will save you a lot of time when asking for help.

Also, be sure to include your operating system and current updates.

I'll try these things out! Hope they work.
I have a Windows 2k system. I also have spybot, Ad-Aware, Anti-Vir as well. I ran them this morning.
But anway i'll try the steps and tell you guys if they work. Will it help me with the YAHOO! messenger problem though?

 

Have no idea on the Yahoo Messenger part, as I only use email for communication with others!
