i wud like to call my S/O without her boss having record of our calls. it is not a cost issue -- personal calls on MY end not a problem, i just don't want her peeps getting my number.

i tried using *67 (surpress outgoing number), but much to my surprise, the callerID on her end extracted my number anyways! what thu...?! i thought that only police, fire, and 911 had this ability, but later on a customer service rep told me that there are a zillion exceptions. under some circumstances, even a regular old residential customer can read surpressed numbers!! what thu?!

so i got a phone card. a little annoyed having to pay for an otherwise "free" call, but, well, ok. called the 800 number, punched in a code, and dialed away...at which point the lil lady informed me that my number was STILL showing on her end! i called the telco again, and this time the rep told me "of course". HUH?

well, if i use *67, and THEN the phone card, in most cases it seems to work ("number not available" or summat on her end), but not ALWAYS. and something which works 90% of the time is no better than something which works 0% of the time, really. plus one of the numbers on her end BLOCKS the call...feeding me a recording ("this phone does not accept calls with ID suppression"). sigh.

what's next? are any of those net-2-phone systems still up and running? preferably a free one, but as with the phone card, i'm willing to pay if necessary.

or even a phone-2-net-2-phone system? can any sort of VOIP system be trusted not to pass along the originator's info?

or do i need to go buy a dump phone? what a pain. this is really a last resort.

Have you looked at SpoofCard? It supposedly lets you call somebody and their Caller ID will display whatever number you want.

OMG, that wud be a godsend! i cud even put up some work number that she legitimately talks to a lot!!

is that a trusted entity, tho? the potential for mischief seems infinite. i can think of a couple of married women i kno whose husbands are about to get 3 am calls from their "exes"....

    :p

Whose already tried to used reverse look up service here? I recently read an article that this service can definitely identify the name of the mysterious caller. I don't if it is real.
