anonymous IP question

is it possible to surf the internet using some sort of IP scrambler or anonymous IP address, so that any program or website that tries to record my IP address does not recieve the true one?

I don't know too much about this kind of stuff...

Perhaps there is a program that can somehow hide one's IP address? or maybe this is easily done within windows, or maybe it is impossible. Either way if it is at all possible i would be interested in knowing about it.

one way to accomplish this is to use a proxy server to surf the net. but you will have to pay for one of these if you want a high speed one.

I use HTTP-TUNNEL. Its mainly used to bypass a firewall but can be used to connect to a proxy server to surf the net. it costs $4.99 a month. http://www.http-tunnel.com

You can get free proxy servers too but they tend to be slow and unreliable.

When you connect to somewhere that sees your ip it willl now see the proxys ip.

You can set your proxy info the following way:

Tools -> Internet Options goto tab Connections

If your using cable assess or LAN then go downto LAN settings and you can set the proxy settings from here.
If you are dial up you can click the Settings tab beside the dialup. You set the proxy settings here too.

Using a proxy will almost always slow down your connection so dont use it unless its really necessary.

 

You're talking about a proxy, to "hide" your IP address. Your ISP may have one you can use, or use a service like http-tunnel, or find a good reliable free one (thats pretty tricky). Try googling free anonymous proxy, see what you find.
