Another 7,000+ files gone.ATI graphics card

I just deleted another 7, 710 files from my ATI Technologies folder.

My laptop is fitted with an ATI graphic card, as you might have guessed. (duh).

As installed, on my laptop, by Toshiba and ATI, there are 9,522 files taking up 194 megs of room.

The space is not the problem, but I hate unneccesary stuff on my PC.
It slows down full backups, takes up room and mostly is just poor programming.

When you check out the ATI Technology folder you will find thousands of duplicated files, in Korean, Japanese, Swedish, etc.

Nothing against Koreans, Japanese or Swedes, of course, but if English is your only language who needs these other program space wasters.

It may be the same with a nVidia graphic card as well. I don't know about them.

I have deleted all the different language folders and have reduced the number of files down from 9,522 to 1,815 with no apparent ill effects.

If you elect to take this mission, I suggest that you create a folder on your hard drive.

Call it c:\Unnecessary Stuff (or whatever you like) and cut and paste all the Language Folders into that folder.

Make sure you copy at the language Folder level so you keep the various language files within their language Folders, in case you need them. Most unlikely but could happen.

Restart your PC and see if it operates the same. Mine did.

Create Restore points and backup valuable stuff is my usual copout.

Once you are happy that you do without all that junk, backup your c:\Unneccessary Stuff Folder to CD and delete that Folder.

Then do a defrag of your hard drive, or course.
