another icon question

hi all,

for 2 days now I have been trying to pinpoint why everytime I reboot my desktop icons have shifted positions. Usually the recycle bin ends up in the lower right hand corner of the screen, while all the rest are lined up like they should be, except out of order. I have searched and tried everything to correct this, and to no avail.
If anyone has an answer or fix of anykind, would certainly appreciate it. Running xp.

Presumably you've tried right-clicking and arranging them according to your choice? Presumably your computer is shutting down normally as well? I have found that if the computer fails to shut down correctly it can mess up things like the desktop icons but it shouldn't continue to be a problem after a clean shutdown and restart.

 

Thank you for responding Chookers, but after repeated trying, I think I had totally screwed everything up, and went ahead and reinstalled windows. At this point, I am glad I did. I have downloaded AVG spybot and Adware and I like how this comp is running again. Appreciate your advice.
