I've read through numerous other threads & was unable to find what is going on with my PC. Today my wife noted a error message that said there was a USB malfunction. Almost immediately my USB mouse & keyboard stopped working. We've rebooted, moved to different USB ports, & tried different combos of only having one or the other plugged in. When the mouse is plugged in the laser light is on but doesn't respond beyond that. The keyboard does absolutely nothing! Now the computer starts differently every time I reboot it. I can't get into the setup because nothing works. HELP!?!? Please...

Also, I have had this problem before & was able to get it working again by rebooting and changing to different USB ports... but none of that has even come close to working this time.

It sounds like none of the USB ports is working.
If you don't have a PS/2 connection on the computer, you are forced to use a USB keyboard. Without a working USB port, of course when you hit the keyboard key to enter the BIOS, the computer does not know that the key was hit to enter the BIOS so you never get in.

First solution, plug in a PS/2 keyboard - if possible and see if the computer works.
Second solution for when the USB ports die: unplug the power to the computer for at least 1/2 hour. Then put in your USB mouse and keyboard, plug the power back into the wall and turn on the computer. The ports should now work.

Not sure why, but after leaving the computer alone for about an hour, I plugged in my wireless mouse that I normally use for my laptop, unplugged my normal mouse & keyboard and started it up again. It actually worked... once into windows I ran a virus scan before doing anything else, but nothing popped up. I plugged in th ekeyboard, windows found and installed it... and then my normal mouse. Everything is back to normal now, but I have no idea why or how??????????????
