    Friends,

Much like other recent threads, I am also having trouble removing an annoying popup/spyware, titled "Only the Best". I have run Ad-aware,Spybot, and CWShredder with no effect. Below are the DLLFIX.EXE log and HijackThis log. Please help me decipher these results!

    Welcome to MG's pvmike,

Are your versions of Ad-aware & SpyBot up to date?

Shutdown all applications and run HijaakThis again. Have it fix the following:

    O2 - BHO: . - {D34F08C5-4F18-477c-86CB-1A9BEECFE37B} - C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\Application Data\mseb\mseb32.dll

    Disable system restore: http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
    Boot in safe mode: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

    Delete the following:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\Application Data\mseb <==== the whole directory

Reset Internet Explorer Homepage and Search Page. Follow the steps below to do that:

    Close all Internet Explorer windows.
Open Control Panel. Click Start>Settings>Control Panel.
    Double-click the Internet Options icon.
In the Internet Properties window, click the Programs tab.
Click the “Reset Web Settings…” button.

    This next step is optional:
Select “Also reset my home page.” Click Yes.

Do you have any idea what this next line is:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ntkd32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\ntkd32.exe

If not, open windows explorer and locate ntkd32.exe and right click on it.
The click Properties and then the Version tab. Take a scan thru all the
Item name info and see if you can tell who this belongs to.

    chaslang,

Thank you for the quick response. I do believe that I have the most up to date versions of Ad-aware and Spybot. I've followed your directions word for word, and the popups are gone.

    I have no idea what this is: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ntkd32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\ntkd32.exe

I am unable to see a Version tab when I click on Properties for ntkd32.exe in Windows Explorer. However, it appears to be something I picked up at the same time that I picked up the popup spyware. It does not belong on my computer. There appears to be an accompanying application, ntkd32, which is also on my computer. However, I am having trouble deleting it in Windows Explorer, and I don't see it as a program that I can add/remove.

Do you have any ideas how I can remove this?

Again, thanks for your help and patience - I'm grateful for the aid.

If you want to see the versions, change windows explorer view to 'details' and then under view choose 'choose details...' . There will be a list of options you have to check that will be available to view in detail mode. I think the version tabs are at the bottom of the list. As for deleting your entries, you will want to boot into safemode for that.

No I am talking about right clicking on the file and selecting Properties. This has nothing to do with the View mode. Ther Version Tab should be one of the tabs at the top of the Properties window. It is always available for properly built Windows EXE and DLLs. Many of these spyware/virus type programs will not show this info so as to make it more difficult to figure out what they are. But there could also be valid programs that just have not included this info too. Problematic!

Your welcome Pv! Glad we could help! Hope things remain clean! To help keep it that way get yourself a firewall (try ZoneAlarmFree or Sygate) and a spyware blocker (try SpyBlaster) . All available here on MG's.

Just like to add my thanks to all involved in this thread. I spent a few days solid trying to liberate my system from "only the best" and finally did it (I hope) using the updated Adaware.
