    I need help.

    Badly.

So today I finally received my S-Video + Sound Jack - Scart lead, to connect my PC to my TV, well, the sound worked fine. But the thing is my TV didn't work because I couldn't switch it to AV (That's not what I'm here to talk about though)

So I unplugged the lead and just sat there with the pc on.

    Restarted.

Ran ScummVM, ran Day Of The Tentacle (An Old DOS Game, and ScummVM emulates a DOS Like environment, tricking the game into working on XP 32BIT (what I'm using) the emulator is also using ROLAND-MT32 drivers) But the thing was, I used the ROLAND-MT32 drivers before on other games, and it was fine. So that couldnt've been it...

    Argh...

So after about literally 7 hours, I came across a thread telling me to regedit Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/Drivers32 - And delete all the midi1 midi2 midi3, well I looked, and I had about 7 duplicates of all of 'em. So I deleted ALL of them and just left midi, wave, etc, instead of like 7 copies, they're all using wdmaud.drv

So I restarted, BADABOOM! The Realtek HD Audio Manager pops up, but it's not recognizing any jacks ,when I plug them in and unplug them, nope. And I have 2 Jacks at the front which I tried, not working either. (Tried just incase I accidentally shorted out the rear panel or something) I opened it up, dusted, nope. Nothing. Not a whisper.

    Jeez.

    I'm so frustrated.

But I don't care, I'm not reinstalling windows, or paying money to fix this. :major:major

So, I've come to you, Major Geeks to help me.

    Can you?

    I'm using a GA-P35-DS3 Motherboard with F12 drivers

And I'm using the sound on the motherboard.

    Halp TT :(:(:(

:wave Welcome to Major Geeks! :major
Try uninstalling the sound drivers, reboot, install the chipset drivers, and go to this web site and scroll down until you see KB888111. Then click the green 'Download' over on the right. Install it and reboot if prompted. Then re-install the sound driver. If you don't have the sound driver and/or the chipset driver, you can download them both from the Gigabyte support page. It looks like they have the full sound driver with KB888111 (also known as the UAA driver) built-in, plus they have the UAA as a separate download too....

Well I tried all that before, and the Realtek Icon comes up, but it doesn't play any sound or detect any jacks plugged in, is it possible that I could've shorted the Sound part of the Motherboard?

    :S...

How can I check that it's functioning properly?

P.S: Even if it hasn't shorted I decided to put all my stuff on 8 DVD's and just reinstall windows, I've got alot of stuff on here I don't want and it needs to be cleaned anyway..

    Thanks for replying.

    P.P.S :

I kept getting static shocks from the PC - TV lead, I got about 3 or 4, because I was touching my dvd player and bleh, but every time I did I touched the outside of the PC case to discharge anything, and I plugged them in to my PC, including the sound lead, could the static-ness pass on to the sound card and short it?

God if that happened I'd have to order a replacement from Realtek.

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I just spent about 12 f***ing hours reinstalling f'ing windows making eight yeah that's right eeeiightttt 8 dvds full of all the sh*t i wanted to put on when i reinstall windows

which took about 4 hours, and then installing windows and the drivers took about 2 hours, fu***ng piece of crap realtek more like realsh*t stupid chinese b'tards can't make their motherboards properly but they can make nintendos and playstations ffs.

I did what you said dlb and it didn't work.

I uninstalled every driver, installed the chipset, rebooted, installed the other thing, rebooted, did it again, didn't work.

    I
    am
    going
    crazy.

The realtek icon is there, and the sound icon is there, in the taskbar. But when i plug in my devices like my speakers / headphones / mic it doesn't detect it.

    What the hell?

    What. The. Hell.

I've been so patient with this crap but nah i don't care this is bs now, i've even opened the pc and changed the sound thingy from hd audio to ac'97 and it still doesn't work.

    What's going on.

The problem is probably the ATI HDMI audio.
Check in Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices. Look at the Audio tab. Is Realtek the default Audio?

You can also try uninstalling ATI, through Add/Remove Programs. Check that it's folder is gone.
    Run CCleaner's Reg Tool.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_S...ish_d4191.html
Reboot. (Stop the new Hardware Wizard, if it tries to reinstall the ATI driver)
Check your sound. If it isn't there, reinstall your Realtek driver.

Then, reinstall your ATI driver, If you need it.

You call that swearing? I've heard worse. LOL
But, yeah, the mods here do frown on swearing, even the way you posted it.

  9. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

Yeah Realtek HD Audio Output is Default audio, P.S: I'm on MSN and I added you so it might be easier to talk there, unless you wanna talk here, it's just slower here though, I'll try installing the thing you said, oh and what ATI should I uninstall? Because my graphics card driver is ATI, should I uninstall the CCC or the Driver?

    :S

I'm about to head for bed and it's pretty much a forum policy to work in here so that others can see the solutions if there is one.

The ATI driver you want to uninstall would be the HDMI Audio, that you can see in the Device Manager Screen shot you posted.
Those drivers seem to take control over the normal audio.
I'm not sure if it's a conflict or what exactly, but usually uninstalling them, getting sound back and then reinstalling them seems to work.

  11. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

Ah Okay I'll try that now, if it doesn't work then I guess I'll wait until tomorrow :]. I bookmarked this page sooo... Just wait about 10 mins and I'll update when I restart my pc, by update I mean I'll tell you if it works!

  12. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

Well I just restarted and ATI HMDI Audio reinstalled itself without that hardware manager thing popping up, I installed the software to install it, how can I remove it forever?

  13. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

Not sure, at the moment. Been a long day and not thinking real clear. i will look into that first thing in the AM.

When you say, "I installed the software to install it" what do you mean?
Wasn't the HDMI audio driver part of the ATI driver package?

Here's another update, after I rebooted my PC in device manager

"ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio ATI AA01"

Came up, it came up after I finished uninstalling the ATi HDMI thing.

  17. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

According to your screenshots, the ATI HDMI audio seems to be uninstalled.
I see 2 audio codecs. ( didn't notice them before)
Look to see what they are (under properties)
If they are duplicates, uninstall one of them.

    Look in Device Manager>System Devices.
Does the HD Audio Controller or the MS UAA Bus driver show there?

  18. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

    I uninstalled one,

they were using the same file ms_mammsc or something, but one had it in caps like MS_MAMMSC

    here's the screenie

The yellow "Audio device on high definition Bus" is when I install it, it installs the ATI Rear Panel Output / ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio AT001 or w/e the code at the end is,

  19. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

There could a conflict in IRQ which might be preventing the sound from proper operation.

Try click Start> Run, enter devmgmt.msc and click ok. In the Device Manager menu, select View then "resouces by type", then IRQ, find the audio driver.
Double click it and in the new screen, disable this device. It will uninstall the driver. Now goto the View menu and select "Device by type". In the new screen, you should see the System Device expanded and a red X for the Audio device.
Double click it and reinstall the driver.
Check the Resouce by type to ensure that the drivers are now installed.

LOL You're not 'sposed to be awake yet, Ignore my last post for a minute.
    Reinstall the HD audio Controller.
If that doesn't work, install this driver and that should contain both parts you need.

I would go ahead and let the Wizard run. (Usually it fails):(
Then, do a complete shutdown and reboot once more

I see you have 2 Audio Codecs and 2 MS UAA Bus drivers now. Hopefully the shutdown and reboot will sort that out.
We might have to totally uninstall all Realtek audio and reinstall again.

  27. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

Seems like we are going in circle, doesn't it?
Go ahead, do a full shutdown and reboot, check your sound, and we'll take it from there.
I have had problems with ATI drivers before, so I may have to dig through a hundred threads or so, to see what the fix was.
It might take some time (and the wife told me to get some chores done, instead of sitting here doing nothing?) rolleyes

In the mean time, after your reboot, if you still have a problem with the Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus, give this a try:

    1) Remove the High Definition audio devices under Sound, Video & Game controllers.
    2) Go into Device Manager>System, right click the UAA Hi-Def Bus driver. (HD Audio Controller)
Disable the device and then uninstall it. (Do not re-boot yet)
    3) Uninstall Realtek High Definition Audio Driver (you may just have a folder that says Realtek) through Add/Remove Programs (if it's installed but not working)
    KB888111
In Add/Remove Programs, look for the KB888111 update and uninstall it. (It may have uninstalled in last step)
If you install, remove, and then re-install this update, the update is no longer listed in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Therefore, you cannot remove this update from your computer.
To work around this problem, follow these steps.
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB888111 (may be in SP3)
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    4. Click Yes, and then exit Registry Editor.
Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_S...ish_d4191.html
Reboot, but don't let Windows install the driver.
Install your driver, then reboot, again.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Realtek_Hi...P03_d4902.html
The UAA should be contained in this download.

  28. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

In add/remove there's also the Realtek AC'97 Driver, should I remove that too?

  29. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

Yes, they may be what has been screwing with us.
I didn't realize it was there.

I will be back in an hour or two.

  30. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

Yeah I removed it, I just rebooted and those UAA bus drivers still show up in Device Manager > System...

    Hmmmmm...

  31. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

Yep you're right. We are going in circles, big circles with the sentence "YOU'LL NEVER FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM HEHEHEHE" on them.

    AJOIAFHFOIAWHOUEI

    This is annoying.

I boot it up, no sound.

The thing that REALLY Pisses me off the most, above ANYTHING, is the fact that the PC boots up, I see the realtek icon sitting there, I click it, I click Audio Manager, I click one of the jacks to change it to Headphones so sound can work, and I KNOW that nothing is going to happen, and nothing does. It just sits there god f'ing damnit I'M SO....

    Okay.

I'm going to figure this out.

  32. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

I think whats happening now that we have the ATI HMDI audio out of the way, is either Windows or ATI or both are loading the HD Audio drivers. (Or maybe your driver app is)

You can try removing the driver app to start with.
(If you are able to reinstall it later and have any registration key it may need)

Next you can try uninstalling, all your ATI drivers, then all your Audio drivers, install your mother board chipset drivers, install your audio drivers, and finally your video drivers.

    Also, check this:
    Windows Audio Service
    Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
Scroll down the list of services until you find the Windows Audio service.
Right click on it and choose Properties.
Make sure it is set to Automatic and Start is checked.

And also check your Master Volume Control. (right click your volume icon, choose options, then properties.)
Make sure all the devices you use are checked.
Then make sure their volumes are not muted and at a good level.

  33. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

I just removed EVERY single trace of audio and display drivers from my PC, I'll reboot, install all the drivers again, reboot, and see if it works.

  34. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

I just reinstalled everything and rebooted, and no. The sound still doesn't work.

And it can't be a hardware problem. There's no way...

But if REINSTALLING windows, NO drivers installed, and no sound?

    That doesn't make sense.

  35. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

After reinstalling the drivers, I go to master audio, and in the properties thing there's

    Front Pink
    Front Green
    Rear Grey
    Rear Green
    Rear Orange

    etc...

but some of them are muted and the volume is at the bottom...

    Hmmm..

  36. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

I'm still around and waiting to see what happens when you unmute and raise the volume levels.

    Ahahah, nothing.

  38. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

I guess you're out of ideas?

My only other option is to contact Gigabyte and ask for a replacement sound card (My dad had the same problem with his motherboard (he has the same as mine) no sound or anything, so he rang them and he received an iffy sound card heheh.

    But...

    There must be something wrong...

I must be installing the drivers in the wrong order...

Could you list EVERYTHING I should do in the correct order, and provide the links to them?

It sounds kind of like a taxing task but it should fix the problem at last..

  39. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

This is the link to Gigabyte and your board. not sure which Rev. you have.
    http://tw.giga-byte.com/Support/Motherboard/Driver_List.aspx?Keyword=GA-P35-DS3

Install your drivers, Chipset first, UAA, then Audio. Gigabyte shows you have the Azalia Codec, which is Realtek HD.
I would stop there and test the audio.

    Then install your Video.
And then any other drivers, the install order won't matter for them.

  40. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

I don't know where to get all the drivers like the UUA and Azalia, this is so annoying.

    Still.
    Doesn't.
    Work.

    Ergh....

What do you think is the problem? Seriously?

Do you think it could be a hardware problem?

    Wait a second.....

It can't be a hardware problem.

But I'm still thinking about getting a sound card from Gigabyte.

  44. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

I suggested this before but we bypassed it.

I am out of ideas. I don't think it is a hardware problem. It is some conflict between ATI, Realtek, and maybe the Roland drivers in that game.
Everything we did should have sorted that out.

  45. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

Well I used the game's audio for about 3 days and the sound was fine, when I found out there was no audio was when I loaded up the game, and it loaded the audio, but nothing played, and I was like "oh it's probably just something I have to reboot"

hmm...I'll test some more things out then give you an update.

  46. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

Ah currently I still don't have sound, but I'm going to try and look at some ATI / REALTEK interference threads.

  47. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

I emailed gigabyte and they're clueless,, they were telling me to Install the drivers. I already did that.

    Like 9 times.

P.S: I just found out that the WDM_R202.exe (Realtek Manager) driver contains support for the ATI HDMI, so that's why it was coming up.

I need to uninstall it and install the EARLIER drivers and then test it.

  48. Yuruka

    Yuruka Private E-2

Nevermind this bollocks (hehe I swore.) I fixed it by just installing another sound card in there and unplugging the onboard one.

Now I'm using a 2001 Creative Labs Soundblaster.

    Yay.

I can't fix this BS so I'll just save up for a Soundblaster X-Fi.

Yeah, that's what I usually recommend folks to do, when Realtek and PC's don't get along.
