My HP 3500 network printer (Jet Direct host) worked perfectly in XP and Vista.
I kept a copy of the latest driver on the server. Visitors could download it if they needed the printer. Years of flawless service from it.
Under Windows 7 the HP site says the printer is "Unsupported". I am not about to run out and buy another $300 printer.
The work around I have found is to use a generic driver for HPL6 and lose some functionality.

Something to consider is your hardware if you move to Win7, what worked perfectly in XP and even Vista may fail in Win7.

Check on the HP site for Win 7 compatibility
    http://www.hp.com/united-states/windows7/index.html
since I live in the US, that's the site I was directed to.
Posters in other countries, feel free to post additional HP sites for checking Win 7 compatibility.
