I was just having a look at the sticky thread about " Guide to removing the choice of operating system" and when i follow the instructions i come up with this .The difference is that i have windowsc and windows , can someone explain to me what is the difference between windowsc and windows means .
When i first boot up i get the choice of which of the 2 operationg systems i want to use . When i use the second choice i get the blue screen of death and a message that the operatin has been halted and damage to my computer will happen if i continue.
    Thanks in advance.

Do you mean Windows CE? That's the only reference I can find. And what is your computer make, model, other specs? :wave:wave

I don't know what this WindowsC is but to get rid of your non-functioning part of your dual-boot is start run type in 'msconfig' w/o the quotes. Go to boot.ini tab and delete 'THE EXACT LINE" save and reboot.

How did you get there in the first place, might help to know.

if i had to guess, you have 2 installs of windows, maybe an install over the first? and whoever reinstalled it, didn't format the 1st, and named the folder windowsc ? do you have a folder on the computer named windowsc? after looking, there is, and it's the default startup. so the windows (without the c) is an older install.

This is what i cut and pasted from the system folder in the control panel.

I remember a while ago i reinstalled windows because there were some files missing , Maybe that could be why it shows two operating systems, But i didn't rename it .

Well, it does look like you have two installs, and only one of them is working. If HD space is not an issue, you can just follow Auggie's advice and delete the bad one.

Else, you should be able to delete the bad install, but I've never seen this and I couldn't positively tell you how to identify the bad one, at least not without being hands on.

If you have your data all save you could do another install, but be sure to choose the full format option when given it. That would give you the cleanest results. :wave:wave

OK, looks like you re-installed on top of your original installation so you then must have a windows.old folder in your C drive too. What you show as your boot file, it points to the same exact same drive. Do what brandy suggests and start afresh as this current install will work with the deletion of the wayward boot entry but you may as well go clean all the way. 40 minutes to install, hopefully you have SP2 or SP3 disk handy.

Ok thanks all for your much valued advice . I will save what i need to my other hard drive and do another install.
