I have recently been experimenting with anti-aliasing in games and am getting some issues which are confusing me. Basically i have tried my card on 2x and 4x and have experienced flickering around the border of the screen in the game flat out when in some of the menus. I have noticed the same sort of issue in GTA Vice City, does anyone know why this may be is this a fault with my card or is this normal with some games such as these 2? My card is a Nvidia FX5900XT....?

I have noticed graphical anomolies in games when using AA,mostly I think its when you force a non AA games to use it i.e enable it in your gfx card menu when there is no option to do so in the game menu.I have also noticed that non AA games have much worst performance with AA than games with an option for it and some flat out dont work. With GTAVC its a PS2 conversion so it will probably have a really wierd game engine that only just works on the pc anyway. :D

ok thanks for the reply, yeah i guess that is true for Vice City but the game Flat Out is quite a new one and has an option in the game menu for anti aliasing and it still has flickering borders in the game menus when i turn it on and turn it on on the card...very weird it should support AA properly but i guess my card cant really be faulty just because it does this so i guess it is the game....

If your gfx card is overclocked try reducing the clock speed what your seeing could be artifacts caused buy pushing the card too hard,AA is done completely by the GPU. :D

No M8 sorry,I have had flickering menu borders before though, but I just turned off AA,I hate saying this but I think you should try a search first on the games site, then a general search on google about your card's AA properties I havnt owned one so Im not clued up on them,it could be a million things and unless someone has had this specific problem you could be waiting ages for an answer but if it works fine without it for now enjoy the extra 30 fps, hopefully someone with half a brain can help you sry M8.

I have had a look at the anti aliasing settings for my card and it has the following values:

    2x
    2xQ
    4x
    8xS

I dont know what the S stands for on the 8x anti aliasing setting but when i select this setting and i have Flat Outs anti aliasing setting set to 4 which is its max setting the problem is not there anymore, this seems strange why 2x and 4x do it and not 8x if this setting means 8x anti aliasing because they S may mean something else....?
I have posted a message about the Flat Out game on the official site but i have had no replies as of yet. The unfortunate thing is i will have to leave anti-aliasing with this game i think as running it at 8X is a bit too much for my PC:(
