anti virus help

can anyone offer any advice on a anti virus program. that doesn't use very much memory.

 

Avira's AntiVir, it's free, and AFAIK it's light on resources. It runs great with Windows XP. The older versions didn't work too well with Windows 2000, but I'm sure that's been straightened out by now.

(From the top link there, CastleCops) dlb's recommended AntiVir comes out on top, followed by Avast (which I use), then Grisoft AVG Free. (I've read numerous postings on different Help Forums about AVG 8 being problematic to some people. AVG 7.5 support/updates are extended out to Dec 31, 2008.)

In a nutshell, there's a good number of Free AV applications out there, but these three always seem to be at the top of the list for effectiveness.
