Having been quite impressed with reviews of BitDefender I set about downloading one of their items. A pop-up offered an attractive discount so I opted for that.

Here's what I posted on the BitDefender forum:

I was going to purchase Antivirus Plus 2015, at £39.95 for use on up to 3 PCs / 1 year.

Pressing the "Buy Now" button opened up another screen which immediately opened up a pop-up offering an upgrade to Internet Security 2015, at £44.94 (instead of £49.95), also for use on up to 3 PCs / 1 year.

Pressing the "Yes, Upgrade" button opened up the Shopping Cart screen. The cart contained Antivirus Plus 2015 (not Internet Security) for use on only 1 PC for 2 years at a price of £39.94.

The only choices then were the "Billing & Payment Info [sic]" button or a "Back to site" arrow.

It looks to me as if the web site is in a mess.

The company's "Help" doesn't address this sort of problem

How does one get the upgrade?

The only response must have been made by someone who didn't properly read my posting or didn't understand it.
It's been over a week now with no other attempts to "help".

They can't help or won't help - there can be no other reason.

So I have washed my hands of them and want to consider other options.

Reading reviews doesn't help me at all.

I am looking for something which is simple to set up and which has a proven track record. I don't want to have to roll my sleeves up and cross swords with software which is too clever for its own good - there is far too much of that.

With some reluctance I have installed an older version of ZoneAlarm. I was a user a couple of decades ago but it got too bloated (and too clever for .... etc). It gives me the impression that it's neurotic - a bit like Firefox is, or used to be.

    Suggestions please.

For the sake of completeness, my operating system is XP. No, I can't afford to upgrade.

    Thank you Nick T.

Do I need to comply with the usual caveat that only one should be installed, not both - even if only one were to be run?

Only one anti virus buddy. Now there are anti viruses that are made to run along side others such as Immunet Free. If it makes you feel more secure, that's the way to go. Also use Malwarebytes, it's an anti malware and can be used with your anti virus. Also Malwarebytes Anti Exploit shields your browsers and can be run along side your anti virus too. Check them out.

Avast free and Immunet Free are now installed, and ZoneAlarm uninstalled.

    Thank you for those suggestions.
