Anti-Virus Scan= Computer Shut Down

When I run my anti-virus before the scan is completed my computer automatically shut down. The computer doesnt even do a normal shut down, it just instantly shuts off. Does anyone know what might be causing this and what I can do about it??

 

How many times has this occured? Is it ALWAYS during the anti-virus scan? What anti-virus program are you using? System specs?

 

It seems to happen occasionally when i am running a number of programs on my computer.

I am currently running XP and Norton 2005

 

Happened at least a dozen times and every time i have tried to run antivirus

 

have you tried to run your AV in segments. like scan one root folder at a time?

 

Have you tried running your anti-virus software in Safe mode? I'd also suggest using another scanner such as AVG or Avast, both of which I've had more success with than Norton.

 

i know i am an idiot, but what is a root folder

 

c:\program files is an example of a root folder. essentially any folder you see in the root of your C:\ drive.

 

I would try uninstalling NAV and reinstalling it.
