Can I run this by all you experts to see what your opinion is?

I have just bought a Sony Vaio laptop with McAfree built in (Free of Charge at the minute) I trust all you guys/gals and everything on this site so I uninstalled McAfree and added AVG Free but I couldn't find a Firewall that I liked the look of so I uninstalled AVG and put Zone Alert on....Yeah, I'm such an idiot.....

My laptop then decided to have a wobbler and kept on giving me limited access to the internet and I had to run the troubleshooter every time I switched on the laptop...ggrrr (I contacted Sony and they said it sounded like a faulty Network Card)

I took the laptop back to the shop as it stated that there was a "Network card issue". However, the guy at the shop told me that I had created the problem myself as I had put on too many conflicting products (Why did he say that when I had uninstalled McAfree and AVG??)

He wanted to try to sell me Norton (Saying that all free antivirus software was rubbish...Not sure I believe that one) He also said that McAfree wasn't any good either.....but it's good enough for Sony to push?

Who do I listen to? I trust Major Geeks but this guy has confused me.

Anyone want to add to my confusion? I have now got the free McAfree one on at the moment....

    Kind regards

Well for one the guy is wrong (Saying that all free antivirus software was rubbish) that is a big lie in it self. This person in my opinion does no hardware but not software.

I for one use AVG my self and it runs fine. But in away you did install 3 anti virus programs with out removing the first.Installing multiplications like anti virus programs will cause internet issues and some major problems.

I use a combo of AVG and malwarebytes and they both do a good job.

Now not every anti virus is bad but there are some bad ones that are resource hogs.

No program is completely deleted unless you go threw the system completely.

McAfee & Norton both have Uninstall utilities. As for the firewall software from a third party, ditch it and use the built in Windows firewall for Windows 8. It will do just fine. As for what is the best security software out there for Anti-Virus/Malware, everyone has their opinion.

I just use the built in Windows Defender from Microsoft, which is rebadged Microsoft Security Essentials.
