Here are the latest test results from AV-Comparatives.
    https://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php#

    Some programs stand out...
    • Bitdefender blocked 100% - no false positives or user input required.
    • F-Secure also blocked 100% but has 30 false positives - the odd f+ can be expected but 30?!
    • Microsoft did equally well but required user input for 5.6%.
    • Quick Heal needs a lot of work...

F-Secure always has lots of false positives in tests but over many years I have never noticed any problem on our PCs.:)

Thats because the user knows about safe network usage, not because an AV definition database protects him.
Love how they dont mention zero-day exploits.

Eldon had us all wiping Malwarebytes a few threads ago......we should install Avast the ratings said?
Some of us payed into this.
Now what?, this week its uninstall Avast and install Bitdefender?

True security begins with you, the user!
If you dont let them in, they cant hurt you....AV or no AV.

You left out a significant fact. It was Malwarebytes on android, not Windows.
I continue to use mbam on 5 Windows computers with 5 different lifetime licenses.

I was not fond of the latest mbam program for android and I happily removed it when I discovered ESET was more than adequate on my 3 android devices.

Actually Avast was only one of 28 AVs that scored 100%.
I did not advise anyone to uninstall Malwarebytes. All I said was...
And I agree 100% with your statement.
About a year ago I connected to the internet for a month running Windows XP Professional SP3.
No post SP3 updates, Internet Security, Antivirus, Antimalware, VPN, nothing but WinXP's firewall.
Afterwards I did full scans with Avast Antivirus and Malwarebytes from the Win7 partition (so that no files were in use) and my PC was clean.

I am not in any way involved (directly or indirectly) with AV-Comparatives.
I merely quote their test results so that the less informed have some indication of what's available, what's good, and what should rather be avoided.
I'm sure you'll agree that it beats taking advise from the patrons at your local pub! :p

Just MHO....a lot of members here run XP, (including you Eldon)..... the most dangerous OS to place across the net but you and they are pretty much ok because of gained knowledge on what its all about, as well as practicing sound internet habits.
You know what you can and cant do online, but I understand that newcomers may need this sort of advice to help them through.
Just dont want false positives relayed to others anymore than Eset does :)

The most dangerous aspect of mobile device useage today is wifi access........we are to willing for free connections in order to save data usage from our own plans yes? Starbucks, the local mall, the airport, McDonalds, the football stadium etc.

This is where you could possibly suffer the most damage from MITM attacks by some toolbar with a wifi Pineapple and your AV will be none the wiser.

Im interested to know why mbam is not adequate for mobile devices, whilst others potentially are?
Im sure its not signature based, or is it?

    Good point!
I had another look at the apps that were tested and only Malwarebytes is listed as Anti-Malware.
    Semantics?

Don't go with AVG and Avast because they are both now the same company. So they would be getting more money off of you if you paid for both..

In all honesty i find anti virus software out dated any more. There are few and far between that are any good.AVG is not one of them mind you.Because it's full of bloat ware.

I don't like using Malwarebytes too often because it gives off a lot of false positive on a lot of app's just because they change the registry.

For the last few months i have been using this HerdProtect 1.0.3.9 it's a much faster scanner then malwarebytes and picks up less false positive's.It's a light wight app. And it does not bog down your CPU while running. Here is link if you guys want to test it out.http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/herdprotect.html

I agree with you i have not used AVG in about 6 years. Not only that back in 2015 or so AVG software was selling peoples data for profit.Watch the video below on how much they really do collect.Once you click the accept button to install you are agreeing to all listed on the videos list.

I have tried that herdprotect and it's really good 2nd opinion scanner. I have switched to it from Malwarebytes and I don't think I would go back to using Malwarebytes again.

  14. I am of the opinion now after using all these 3rd party AVs, in Windows 10 mind you, that the Windows Defender and a firewall is sufficient enough for me and takes up vary little CPU. If I suspect Malware or Virus’, which personally is almost never, I run MBAM, SAS, AdwCleaner, etc. to find and remove infections but as for real-time protect WD and ZAlarm do fine.

I think the best Anti-Virus out there is the knowledge of safe internet usage. If your asking for viruses your going to get them, simple as that. When someone gets virus’ and consults me I just see dollar signs most of the time but if it’s too simple I’m pretty sympathetic an under bid myself if they are financially well off. It’s one of those things.
