Antispyware xp 2009 help please

    Hey Everyone.

    My friend has been infected with this spyware program and has asked me to go round and sort it out. Now i would much rather he was able to do this himself as i think it would teach him a good lesson about keeping his system safe and secure. Unfortunatly he can not do this at the moment as this program keeps directing him to their pay site as soon as he opens his browser, he is also unable to run any of his removel programs, again im assuming because of this nasty piece of malware. What i would like to know is if there was a way he could get round the browser problem temporarily just so he could get to the read and run me guide on majorgeeks, and then he can do the work himself and maybe learn somthing in the process.

    If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    Starting your computer in Safe mode

    If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

    Are you going to continue to assist him or is he going to run the scans and start his own thread with the logs attached?

    I have shown him the light now he needs to find his own direction! I only learnt about this stuff from reading threads on this sight, so i think he should invest some time and effort into it himself. I got malwayebytes to run and that seems to have cleared the problem, i have however told him to go through the complete run and read me section so i would imagine he will posting his logs soon.
