btw I do feel a need for something more seeing how I'm connected to a network w/ windows machines, if I get a windows virus from one of the linux machines on the network it would seem to me like it would have the ability to spread through the network to the so called lesser secure machines am I wrong in thinking this or can't you download a virus in linux by means of getting crappy software?

You can't get a windows virus, your using linux. I have never heard of any antispyware apps for linux. As well as a virus apps. I have heard of a virus scanning app for a linux file server server, but not a general linux one. Your fine.

Aye, there are almost no cross platform viruses. On top of that, for a virus to install, you will need to give it root permission.

Heheh, you won't do that, right? :)

There are very few AV apps, most likely due to no need for them.

    Check Synaptic for it.

Clam AV is in the repositories. If you don't have Synaptic, check Adept.

if you don't have SpamAssassin, get it also and use it.

SpamAssassin is a mail filter tool for a mail server. Why would a home user need to configure it unless using it as a mail server? Is that the case or is this machine just used as a desktop grimmer. If its being used as a server, then im mistaken, and theres a few more tools we can suggest, please clarify your use for us. Thanks
