i was wondering if anyone knew what files contained the virus definitions for symantec anitvirus corporate edition v8.11. heres my problem. everytime i try to do a live update, the connection refuses. So i go to Norton.com and it connects fine, but then if i want to go to any part of the site that connects to symantec.com or such, my computer says page cannot be displayed. Trying to be a little smart i go to mcafee.com. that gives me the same result. Then i stumble upon this web site. i figure OK i should be able to download the updates from here. NOPE. gives me the same error. This leads me to believe i have some sort of virus not allowing me to go to any anti virus web site or receive any definitions connected with an antivirus web site. I asked my cousin to send me his anti virus definitions, but he is asleep right now, and i don't even know if he knows what files contain the definitions. If its possible could anyone either tell me the names of the files, or send me the most recent update. Thank you.

thanks for the help. it seems that i have a virus called w32.gaobot.AFJ and it is infecting a file called scvhost.exe. my antivirus program found it in the windows\system32 directory, but it could not quarentine it or clean it.i tried to delete using my antivirus program, but it says that that file does not exist or it has been moved. when i try going into that folder to find the file, it doesnot even exist in that folder. ive done a search for it on the computer and nothing... anyone got any tips on how to get rid of this file/virus???

Find a clean computer, like a friend's or relatives, and download it to a floppy or CD. Then bring it home and run it on your system.

This link specifies those with this virus and cannot contact Symantec online:

Good Luck !! I think that Just Playin' had the right idea. This looks like it is a nightmare to remove manually. Have a friend burn you a copy of the removal tool, or perhaps E-mail it if the file is small enough. This puppy should not have gotten past Norton if it was updated IMHO.
