Antivirus Reinstallation Issues

    Hi,

    I am running Win7 Starter on an EeePC netbook.

    I recently noticed that the "Web Protection" and "Mail Protection" elements of my "Avira Antivirus Premium v.13" were not installed. I therefore got in touch with Avira who sent me email instructions to resolve the problem.

    The process was essentially to

    1 - Enter Safe Mode and manually delete "ProgramFiles\Avira" as well as "ProgramData\Avira"

    2 - Run Avira RegClean

    3 - Enter Normal Mode and Install Avira Antivirus Premium

    Part 1 I did ok, although I did have to rename a couple of files as had been suggested in the instructions from Avira as I couldn't delete them.

    Part 2 Also went fine and the program found about 35 keys which I deleted as per the instructions.

    Part 3 I hit a glitch when installing the new .exe file whereby the internet was not detected by the installation (which was needed I guess to register etc). I tried opening pages in my browser and there, too, was no internet access. The strange thing is that the Network and Sharing Centre highlighted no issues and it seemed as though access to the net should be as normal. I have resolved the issue temporarily by restoring to a restore point from a couple of days ago but this process has restored a load of the Avira software that I was trying to remove. I am essentially back to square one with Antivirus in the same state as before I started.

    I am worried that by going through the same process for a second time I am going to encounter the same internet breakdown again.

    Is it possible that deleting some of the keys in Avira Regclean would disable programs from the internet connection?

    Is there a chance that I have a virus somewhere? I performed a full scan a few days ago and all was clean - although I am a bit dubious about the integrity of the Antivirus since some of the components haven't been working it seems.

    Sorry for the ramble. Any help would be greatly appreciated.;

    Thanks

    Just a quick update. I've run the Eset online anivirus scanner which came up clean so this seems to be a software issue.

    I don't understand why the internet becomes unobtainable after deleting all of my existing antivirus files, directories and reg keys.

    If anyone can shed any light I would be grateful.

    Thanks.
