Antivirus software for W2k

I have been running Comodo firewall and antivirus on my windows 2000 Pro OS. Comodo has recently stopped supporting 2000 Pro, so I investigated other antivirus suites. Same with Norton, Trend and others.

I thought I would look into upgrading 2000 Pro to XP Pro, but as I tried to communicate with Microsoft, I found I had to shell out $90 to their email "help" just to ask if I could spend money to upgrade their product, which they no longer support either.

I really don't want to spend Christmas migrating to a new computer when all I want is virus protection. Any advice on products or solutions to this dilema?

It leads me to the next questions - although I have been running Comodo anti virus which was free, in the back of my mind, I wondered if it was as good as a paid for product. Now with AVAST, I am wondering again. Why is it better than a suite from someone like Norton, Trend or Kaspersky?

Is the PC Tools firewall better than Comodo (Comodo firewall still works on W2K)?

The link you gave me also implies that I should have at least two malware programs as well as a stubborn malware program, a rootkit program and an antispam program. 1st I thought antivirus WAS anti malware, and if not, why get two anti malwares and a stubborn anti malware? 2nd, which of these programs listed in the link would be the best choice for malware, rootkits and spam?
