    Hello,

My NAV is coming up for renewal and I am not sure if there are better products to use. I hear about McAphee and Panda are these better or do you know of something else to use? NAV is a resource hog and it slow down my system. I am using windows 98 v.1, yeah I know old and will update someday.

Your advise is always greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Homerj

I'm a diehard McAfee fan, but almost all of the major brands are pretty competitive as far as features and detection. I know a lot of the users around here swear by AVG, which I believe would be free.

I recommend NOD32, fastest scan engine, very high detection rate, very lite on system resources, but you have to set it up right, and its not free.

If you're happy with Norton then stay with it.

McAfee is very good and underrated, as is NOD, but if you haven't had problems with Norton then I wouldn't change.

Not to mention how problematic Norton can be to uninstall. lol

Thanks for all of your help and information.

NAV has worked fine, my concern is that updates are only once a week and products like Panda are everyday. I am always worried that I am going to get a virus or someone is going to hijack my pc.

    Thanks again,

    Homerj

I get Norton updates more than once a week.

Granted it's not everyday, but certainly more than once a week.

In fact I've updated 3 times in the last week. Make sure you have Auto LiveUpdate set.

I prefer Symantec AntiVirus, not Symantec Norton AntiVirus. It is expensive though, but it is effective an unobtrusive.

i use mcafee enterprise version 7

a good AV is one that updates very regulary
having said that must use hueristic scanning now that can see the signiture (trade mark signs ) of a virus that has not yet been reported ,it can and does falsely recognise certain files as viruses, but this is very uncommon, and if your ever in doubt quarintine it and do a bit of research or post onto the spyware board with the problem.

    hope this helps :)

My advice is try AVG. It's free, so you invest nothing. I've replaced Norton with AVG some time ago, and have never been sorry. Uses very little resources, updates regularly and quickly, and has never missed a virus for me.
