It's in MG's list of downloads, so it's safe. I personally have never heard of it though.

Keep in mind it is also 'shareware' which means that you will have to pay for it (probably after a trial period)

There are alot of good anti viruses out there.
Many of them just havent been reviewed by the right people.
I heard about this one i just dont know if it is any good or not.

Lots of people here seem to use Avira AntiVir, myself included.

I have been a beta tester for Sunbelt software for several years. I started out with CounterSpy, an antivirus only program and I currently run VIPRE, which is both an antivirus and antimalware detector on a windows 2000 computer.
Since I haven't run Norton nor McAfee in years, I can't compare VIPRE to the current paid offerings. I haven't had any positive detections. I have had a few false positives, but then it was beta so I expected this.
On my other windows computers I run AVG and malwarebytes.

I will probably switch to the free programs, basically because I'm cheap and I tend to do most of my surfing on a linux computer.

i trust the people from av-test.org.. i use bitdefender internet security 2009 because a friend recommended.. and when i discovered av-test.. read bitdefender's reviews and i have to agree with them: it works fine, it's low on resources and its scanner engine is one of the best.

    good luck and stay protected!

I've used VIPRE for about a year now on my personal computer and it's worked great. I haven't had a problem yet.

I know this is an old thread, but that's a terrible review.

Compared to Symantec Corporate's 28-32MB + 3MB for the tray? Seems like an improvement to me. Don't even get me started on AVG.

too bad she didn't bother posting performance reports pre- and post- install as proof of this "performance hit". Her other reviews are poorly written (English, grammar) and nitpick things like UI and installer package size.

see an unbiased review here (cnet.com)

Sure, I'm a Vipre fanboy, but it's because it has given me good service over the last few months, and I'm finishing up an Enterprise-wide rollout now.
