    2 newbie questions:

What is a good free antivirus program?

If you have a network of a few computers does each computer need its own antivirus program? any other issues when there is a small network as relates to antivirus protection?

AVG Free Edition will do the trick. Go here. You can register for free.

It is always a good idea to run antivirus on each machine in your network. Just make sure the auto-update feature is enabled for each antivirus client in order to download new definitions as they are available.

    Be advised!!

Some folks are having trouble with the auto update feature with AVG. I do and I choose to manually update because I really like the proggie and do not wish to change. please refer to the following thread if you want to D/L AVG

AVAST is a good AV proggie also!!

'Nother vote for Avast. I like the frequent virus database updates. Easy to use interface and seems pretty thorough.

I don't mind manually updating AVG Free, actually, I've always done that, even on other AVs that had no probs w/ autoupdate. Be sure to put the other server in the .ini file in your AVG directory.

www.grisoft.com is a great less congested server for updates than the grisoft.cz or whatever they have by default.

i second this one, i've used it for ... *counts* 3 years running and no probs, always found the virus before it did any damage.

    I'd recommend AVG Free.

I along with few other geeks have been using Panda antivirus, but Adryn and afterwards I found what seems to be a strange but where it causes a BSOD on shutdown. Other than that its updated frequently, and seems to protect pretty good. The built in firewall is good too, but I've yet to configuire it so that it doesnt do too much "protecting" me so that i cant upload stuff to web-servers outside my LAN.
