I'm starting to ponder choices for my next pc and am leaning towards a core 2 duo (probably 2.4 ghz) with 2 gb RAM (667) with maybe a Seagate 320 gb HDD so to be able to work digital photography editing----I'm in no rush and do not have to have it for the holidays but just kinda browsing----

Anyone have recommendations as to where to look for a builder?? I'm reluctant to get into building it myself----

Dells are contrary to miss-information pretty good these days and have similar specs to what your looking for, but what country are you from so suggestions to local builders can be supplied?

I see you are into digital photography editing. Make sure that the software you use can take advantage / use core 2 duo CPU's (get it in writing) otherwise I would recommend sticking to a higher ghz single CPU (like 3 or 4 ghz, or whatever is available nowadays).

Most single software programs cannot take advantage of dual CPU's, at this stage.

They can split 2 or more programs over duo CPU's, but not run a single program over both CPU's at the same time. I am open to correction on this.

This has been my experience in the older core duo CPU's (not core 2 duo's)

Vista might utilise duo 2 core better, but the weakness is still the 3rd party software.

Best to have a little shop about on ebay. There are alot of custom pc stores on there that you can order from online.

I've tried the guys on ebay and I'm sure they're can be good but I think one is taking some risk and better deals can be had either at HP or Dell----they kick in a lot more options at no cost and I think are more reputable---but sure if one looks long enough, deals will show up---

I'm a system builder - have been for 10 years. If you want a custom system and don't want to build it yourself, I'd be happy to talk with you, or refer you to someone in your area if I can.

Things about buying from a system builder rather than eBay is you get a custom system designed to your specs, you can often get more bang for your buck, and you are supporting a local small business.

I build on Intel based systems, so everything has a 3 year warranty from Intel, except hard drives which have a 5 year warranty from Seagate, and memory and video cards which have lifetime warranties from their manufacturers. You won't find *that* in a mass produced machine.

The "Big Players" in the market - Intel, Microsoft, and AMD, all actively support what they call "the channel" - that is, local system builders - and through their support, many local PC builders can also offer you extra value such as the following:
