Hello, I have regular hp laptop and it was messing up last night. Now when I went to open the screen is blank. I have a start button but desktop is black. Also none of our files or pictures are in the correct folder. I searched for a file and the computer pulled it up but when I open Microsoft Office it says no files. Also I got a wierd e-mail yesterday, I open in Outlook so it atomatically opened. I tried to do a system (where you bring your computer back to a certain time) it was empty. I don't have money for geek squad and I am not all that great with computers as you can tell by my computer lingo. Thanks for any help!

What i suggest is that you shut down the computer, and after 10 seconds or so, start it up again, and press the F8 button several times while doing this. You should then see the option to go into "Safe Mode". accept this. While you are in safe mode, you should be automatically be taken to your windows desktop. There you should click in this order: Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then System Restore. In System Restore, choose Restore your computer to an earlier time. Take the suggested restore date that is offered. Wait untill the restore process is finished. You should then be instructed to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. Proceed with this restart and your problem should be solved. Best of luck to you!

If you want good help, then this
is NOT adequate information. Aside from mentioning HP laptop, you need to mention the EXACT model and letters and numbers after it. Some have restore partitions, and HP will even sell you a restore CD for selected models if the hd is unbootable and you need to install a new hard drive.
