Day before yesterday my computer shut off, so i checked the first thing (the fuse in the plug) yep it had blown, so i changed it and bang blew again and again and again..So i took the PSU out stripped it cleaned it (very dirty inside) rebuilt it set the comp up and great worked like a charm, then later that day fuse blows again..So i checked the inside of the case (lian Li) everytthing seemed fine but still blowing fuses, so i stripped the comp and rebuilt it in another case i had and since then all has worked fine (plus my comp is quieter :) ) i kept some fans out..

So question is does anyone have any ideas have they heard of this before? My thoughts are the other case for some reason was not grounded properly and was blowing the fuses even though i found no cause for this..

    And thoughts would be apprceciated..

Is your motherboard on the proper number/type of standoffs?
Are there any bad or damaged traces?
What's the power rating on your PSU?
Have you tried it with another PSU?

You are drawing too much current for some reason. Either you have a short, or you have too many devices on your PSU...

Hey Mada thanx for the reply, i do not have my mobo on all supports about 3 are missing, but that has been fine for about the last year, plus all the hardware has been the same, no wait i added a new printer, hmmm, this may be the problem, i do not have it plugged in at the moment since i rebult with the other case..

The power supply unit i have is a crap generic one i have had for about 2 years i think it is 350W i plan on buying a new silent PSU about 550w is my aim.. :)

It is just strange because all has been fine for about a year no changes, until you jogged me with extra hardware, and the printer is added so Mada you may of nailed the problem :)

I never stopped to think of resources on the PSU due to like i said no changes but printer i am sure is the answer now.. :) Thanx mada..

I must of used every fuse from all my appliances around the house in my computer.haha..

The idea of a printer pushing my PSU shows how lame the PSU is, i always new buying a generic 350 was not the best way to go but like i say time for a new one.. :)

Well, let's not jump to conclusions. If you do not have all the standoffs, can we be sure that your motherboard isn't grounding out somehow? They're designed to keep the motherboard from touching the chassis, providing a SHORT path to ground which would cause a burst of current, until the fuse blew. Remember, Current (I) = Voltage (V) / Resistance (omega)....if there's suddenly less resistance (ie same voltage applied), there will suddenly be more current.

And before we blame the printer (which I would assume is NOT powered by your computer's PSU, but its own), you should check your printer's manual/manufacturer's website to see how much, if any of a strain it would put on your system.

Heh, of course, it can't hurt to "up" your PSU. It's always great to stay AHEAD of the breakdowns that will inevitably happen.

Hey Mada thanx for the good reply yet again.:) sadly today my computer blew another fuse so even after a rebuild into the new case and all seemed well, everything is seated perfect mobo is seated properly, everything has been spring cleaned so to speak, and yet the problem has returned. This leaves me no doubt that it is a hardware problem that needs replacing.

Thankfully the problem will be only 1 of 2 things either PSU or Mobo and as both are quite cheap in price i will tomorrow order both over the internet. ;)

    Thanx for your advice Nada..

    Phil..
