Any laptops still with XP?

I'm researching a new budget laptop ($500-$800) and have one (seemingly) simple requirement: that it comes installed with XP instead of Vista. HP was my first choice, Dell my second, but so far none of the system variations I've gone through have XP as an OS option. I know at first Dell had Vista-only systems, but I thought they'd brought XP back in as an option.

Am I out of luck for XP?

As far as I know, all new laptops from the mass producers are shipped with Vista. Your best bet here is to find a small local independent PC store that will custom build a laptop to your specs, with XP. It may cost a bit more, but you'll get WAY better support, faster warranty service, and you won't get Vista shoved down your throat... Just be sure the shop has been in business a while and that they actually have a storefront, not a PO Box; and you don't want some college aged kid, a self proclaimed 'expert' working out of a garage ;) (I have nothing against young people! I've just had to fix too many PC's that were "fixed" by the family computer "expert" or the neighbor's "computer wiz" 13 year old).

Yes, Dell still sells them. Just go to the Dell site and enter XP in the search box and it will give you a list of notebooks that come in XP or Vista; you customize. Or go to the Dell site, click on home and home office/notebooks, scroll down and on the left hand side you will see "still looking for Windows XP". Click on that for the list of notebooks with XP. They are not cheaper though for being with XP.

Ahh, perfect. For some reason when I tried the "still looking for XP" link before, it only had one laptop listed-- your advice of doing a search for "XP" also came up with several good leads.

    Thanks guys,

toshiba still sells xp laptops (although not heaps) for clients of mine who need xp (businesses etc) if we cant get a preloaded one, its usually easy enough to find XP drivers and install xp from scratch

Also, Dell's Small Business website still sells Windows XP with all their laptops. (I think) Not to mention, they come with much less crap installed. =)
