I recently got a CD in the mail from PeoplePC. I don't have internet access as of yet at home and have been looking for a low-cost ISP. I've also heard of Netzero from TV ads and seen in the Software forum where some folks have had some problems. What are the likes/dislikes of these or any other low-cost ISPs you're familiar with? On the surface they look pretty good. Anyone who's had experience with these 2 in particular? Or with any other low-cost ISP?

(bump) Hmmmmm either no one uses these or not familiar with them....

Would moving this into the Network forum be more suited? ...TIA

I've heard of both of these but have no experience with either. They're dialup services, which I haven't had for years. In fact, I don't know anybody who has dialup where I live.

    HI,

My father-in-law had NetZero. The 1st month was free and they would start charging his Credit card $9.95 / month. 1st month goes by with no probs. 2 days after payment for 2nd month, a problem of not being abnle tp connect to internet happened. They offer free on-line help..a joke if you can't get on-line, or they charge $1.95/ minute to solve your problem with a live tech.(all phone people were out of U.S. and mostly from India). Then I found out he had just bought a computer from Dell and got 6 months free from AOL (another story). So I guess if you want a free month of internet go with NetZero, but after a month that's when the ZERO kicks in.

people pc is just good enough to surf with,
no internet connection sharing, no properties to setup enhancements.

you get what you pay for

Can you expand on this? I don't understand what you mean - not familiar with this - thanks.

I'm on cable ( would never go back to dialup ),but Ford Motor Co. gave me access to PeoplePC for 3 yrs free. I put it on my old Computer,it gets you on the net. But it's slow,it loses connections a lot and as for Calling for Assistance  it Sucksssssssssssssss. I've used NetZero at work in the Computer Learning Center,it Sucks as well. I would look for a local Internet Provider myself.

For what it's worth~ I'm on a fixed income (disabled), and have to use dialup due to $$. I use Juno (which is owned by the same Co. as NetZero), with the same $9.95/mo price. Maybe it's my location (western MA), but I've had no problems with the service (they even have V.92 sites for internet call-waiting that actually works). I even downloaded SP2 for Windows XP without incident (long? You betcha!). Running Ver. 7.0 . You can hit their web site(www.juno.com), and in the menu, click on "help", then "access numbers" to see if it's available where you're at. As everyone else mentioned, the tech support is non-existent.
