CCleaner does an excellent job of removing invalid registry keys. But make sure you allow it to back up the registry before it deletes any registry keys in case of any problems. Many here will tell you that fooling around with the registry can render your computer useless if done improperly. Some will even tell you to leave the registry alone period since the keys take up such little space.

problem is micro(virus) office is running dlls and stuff at startup from the registry, and I need to finally completely delete office from everything so that my killbox will stop being linked to an autorun msiexec.exe (please wait while windows configures microsoft office) process.

I uninstalled office 2010 (because it's garbage and a virus and I'm sad that I bought it instead of openoffice). Then since it didn't really remove everything (of course....it's microsoft) I got an office 2010 uninstaller which removed a bunch more of office, but not everything. Finally Unlocker (someone here directed me to it) got the rest of the undeletable folders, files, and dlls. Now I just need to get rid of the undeletable registry keys. THEN maybe this virusoffice will finally actually be totally gone.

In the future, if you want to uninstall something use Revo Uninstaller free. This works on 32 bit programs. If you have 64 bit programs, there are two choices. Buy Revo uninstaller Pro or try My Advanced Uninstaller free. (version 10).

I've removed completely different trial versions of Office that came pre-installed on computers. I've remove compatibility pack for different flavors of Office on computers.

The uninstall program uses the programs own uninstaller, if it has one, then goes back and picks through the registry and finds all the entries.

I had to use My Advanced Uninstaller free to uninstall Puran Defrag a few days ago. There is no visible unistall for this in the program list.
I was not at all happy with the newest version of Puran Defrag; it tried a few times to get me to install some junk with the Defrag program (if I remember correctly it was the Babylon Toolbar!) so i did not want to download a group of utilities from Puran simply to cleanly uninstall the defrag program.
I'm no longer recommending Puran Defrag.

My favorite Registry Cleaning tool is a freeware program called: Eusing Free Registry Cleaner which can be downloaded from right here at Major Geeks.

Side Note: As with all of these types of registry cleaning tools: be sure to allow the program to back up before proceeding with the cleaning. ;)

    Good Luck! -- COMP

CCleaner can remove startup items as well; no need to go into the registry.

I don't know what kind of problems you have with Office 2010; I have it installed on several XP and W7 systems, and it works very well if properly installed.

If yours is running installers during startup, then the installation is obviously botched.
