Any program to mass unlock files in Vista?

I recently did a system restore to fix a internet related problem, but when Vista reloaded itself some of my programs needed to be reinstalled. But that's not what bothered me. What bothers me is now 90% of my personal files are locked and I have to keep clicking the unlock button every time I want to use them. Is there a program that will scan my PC for locked files and allow me to unlock them in one swoop?

 

Sadly, I'm not familiar with this part of the Vista user interface. :confused

Could you post a screenshot of this in action? That might jog my memory.

If it is what I suspect (NTFS file permissions), then we should have a simple solution for you. If it is something else, hopefully the screenshot will show what it is exactly, and we can make recommendations from there.

Ahhh... please try this (note that this may require you to elevate your privileges by using User Account Control) :

1. Navigate to the root folder containing the problem files. (You say "personal files", so I might guess that this is c:\users\username, where username will match the name of the user account you log in with)
2. Right-click the folder and select 'Properties'
3. On the folder properties dialog, select the 'Security' tab.
4. Press the 'Advanced' button
5. On the 'Advanced Security' dialog, select the 'Owner' tab.

Can you post a screenshot of this window? I suspect that we will be able to set your user account as the owner of this file, and have this setting cascade down to all files and folders beneath it, giving you permission to use the files, but I would like to be certain before we do.

 

I'm in the administrator group and the master and only account on this PC is the Culery J Jeffries account.
