In the past I had found some reliable ones but they've all turned into adware zombies. Is there a clean app to download Youtube audio/video clips? I dont mind paying. Working on a W10 64 bit Pro PC

    Thanks in advance

I don't run Windows 10. This is my Win 7 setup. I've used an addon in FF Quantum
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/easy-youtube-video-download/

In the earlier versions, I used download YouTube Videos as mp4. It is no longer available.

I've also used 2 standalone programs.
After reading this and having trouble with my first program
    https://www.techradar.com/news/the-best-free-youtube-downloader

    I'm using 4K video downloader.

I was using YTD Video downloader (Basic)
    https://www.ytddownloader.com/
but it stopped working. That's why I looked for something else.

I am new to this site. I am also interested in downloading the audio portion of youtube videos. Should I consider the links in this post to still be safe? The videohelp one looks good but the post is over a year old. Sorry if I'm being overly cautions. Thanks.

I just installed the latest version of 4K Videodownloader last week. I was helping someone who could not download an instructional video.
I've downloaded several since I have it.
You can get it here https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/4k_video_downloader.html

It will download video. If I want audio, I then use a tool at the Pazera site to grab the audio.
    http://www.pazera-software.com/products/audio-extractor/

This small "portable" program will also convert from one audio format to another.
I used an offline old XP computer and Windows Media Player (which I never use but it was set up on this 2nd hand computer) to rip some songs from several oldies CDs we own. Unfortunately, the resulting songs were not in the format I wanted so I used the Pazera tool to convert them to mp3 so I could put them on our mp3 players.

YTD and some of the others are very limited in terms of what they will do in the free versions. can't handle multiple files, can't handle playlists, and end up limiting the total number of files u can get.

the PRO version(s) are far superior. even if u have to obtain a copy thru shady means....

i'm just saying. maybe 4K or one of the other DLers has a more generous free version, but the YTD one is like night and day.

unfortunately, i have some weird glitch in mine lately where i can't even get playlists in the PRO version. rly weird. doesn't say "error" or "upgrade to pro" like the free one might, instead just "accepts" the input and...IGNORES it!! absolutely nothing shows up in the "activity" tab. (unlike single or multiple files entered directly, which both load and DL fine.)

have un/reinstalled and even tried changing versions (still PRO). bupkis.

so weird. could some firewall or something be doing this? why selectively on PLAYLISTS only? and why not triggering an error message at least?

as for tryna extract the audio from YT videos, the magic word is "demux". google that and you'll find a zillion apps to do it.

JDownloader, btw, will display the audio separately if u "find links". while i am simply trying to get the video, same as with YTD or 4K, it gives me instead a messy pile of loose video, audio, and affiliated txt and jpg files. u can prolly set a filter to make it select "audio only" by default. (as i was considering for "video only"....)
