SuperCache transfers your disk cache to RAM, which speeds up the system quite dramatically.
You can specify the amount of RAM used.
Free fully working 1 month demo available, so i tested and was amazed - really amazed.

The problem is the pricing (99$-199$ for home or pro).

    So:
As this can be done, has anyone created a cheaper/freeware version that performs in similar way?

I dont think super cache is a ram manager like those posted by bchivers.Ram managers free ram and make ram available for apps.Super cache is to speed up the hard disk,by moving harddisk cache into ram.It monitors the most active files and move them to the ram.I have not tested super cache but tested their ram disk utility and I like to run apps from the ram disk.I think super cache its a good app unlike ram managers.Unfortunately I dont know any other program like super cache. The closest I have seen is smartalec smart buffer.Which is a hardisk cache manager, but they dont move it to ram.And dont improve performence to notice. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download276.html
One thing I found confusing on harddisk tweaking guides is why they say moving the page file to a ram disk improves performence. And what are the advantagous of using a ram drive over a harddisk.Hardware like gigabyte iram and cenatek rocket drives are in the market.

kadavill, Thanks for your informative description. I think I have a better understanding now. I was looking at CacheMan which is free for personal use, would this be a similar product?

Cacheman is a mix between a RAM manager and a disk cache manager. It works by changing these settings. But usually it doesnt improve performence as microsoft usually set the best cache and memory settings by default.Smartalec whih I sugested does make a disk cache, but I dont know how it works.Supercache is a completely different idea.It works on the fact that the RAM is faster than the harddisk so if you have a server or some files that you need to access quite often, then super cache will load it into ram, increasing acess speed.Supercache is not for low RAM machines. You need a lot of memory for supercache as it will be allocating memory for this.
