Any Skype experts on here?

I've installed a Logitech c525 web cam, am trying to do a video call to a person on a mobile unit which I have a subscription in order to do so. My OS is XP home, Processor is AMD Sempron 2200 (1.5 G) IG ram. I've tried versions (latest) 6.2, it says I have an older computer and need an older version of Skype. I've since tried 3.8, 4.2 and now 4.0. The last one restarts my computer when the person I'm calling answers. I've been working on this for a week, please help, I want to see my new grand daughter.

 

I hope the problem is solved by now (if so, perhaps you could tell us what the solution was ?)

I'm not an expert, but I do use skype from time to time.
You've tried different versions of skype, clearly. I use skype [v.4.2] (though not for a while on this system) with a USB videocam [SN9C202 ADE-1.3MP SN9C202]. I have XP Home SP3 (SP3 installed later of course).

You should try if you haven't already voice to voice only between two desktop PCs, and between your PC and the mobile device, and voice only to audiovideo between two desktops, etc., in order to find where the problem is. Have you tried this ? I have never experienced restarts of the computer, though I think I've had skype restarting (?). Sometimes I have problems especially with video calls if skype is busy (has many users online); there is insufficient bandwidth somewhere.

Thanks for the response, I've taken care of the problem, I bought a more powerful computer, things are humming along nicely now.

 

Thanks for the feedback, Blueone, I haven't used skype on my old PC for a while (I meant to...) but it works ok on my newer laptop (version 6.1.73.129 without messenger)
