I gotta organize! Can anyone suggest a way to create folders in the Vista start menu so I can group similar programs together, instead of searching through an ever growing list.
    Thanks

    Hi

Yes, if you use these or a combination of these two locations you can edit, create and move applications into catagories or group locations for the start menu.

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu for individual users ( ie. your specific user account ) or C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu for the global account ( ie. All users )

just paste the above locations into explorer, a folders address bar or the address bar of Internet Explorer to open them.

The above suggestion is good as I use this gadget, but could have the effect of giving you a very large gadget, so best to use for common used apps which you want to get to very quickly, another tip is.. I dont use the All Programs menu, I start to type the apps name in the Start Menu Search box and it finds them.

Thanks for your help guys, wildwolf220, I didn't try the gadget yet, I may in the future, but I still haven't explored vista fully yet, and haven't tried the sidebar or sideshow feature either, guess I just want to keep things simple.
Halo, I tried the cut and paste but couldn't seem to figure it out, Then I just right clicked on "all programs" in start and then explore, and was then able to create folders and move programs into it, so thanks again guys.:wave

    Halo,
Thanks for your clear explanation for organizing the VISTA Start Menu. Can you explain why Administrative Tools shows up in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs but not on my Start Menu/All Programs?
