I was recently givin a computer with this MB and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about it? I see it supports Ht Cpu but not sure what kind. I know it's a 478 pin and supports 400-533 fsb CPU's but not sure what kind (i.e. nothwood prescott etc...)It currently has a 2.0GhZ CPU(tried powerleap for a upgrade help, but said not upgrade available????) I hope the image i tried to put up wroks ha ha ha. I know it's a 8668 Grand. It didn't have a HD when it was give to me and i had a 20 G so i used it and tried to install Windows ME (it's the only OS i have other than a dell xp disk, and i know that won't work) I tried to install the drivers for the savage pro from the Biostar website but i would install as would the chipset drivers or sound drivers. I usually can figure stuff ,out but i need a little help with this one:confused: Any help would be GREATLY Appreciated!!

  3. This is exactly what i was looking for. Is there any certion order to install them? Like my Dell...chipset...video...sound..etc? I tell ya, Major Geeks has GOT to be in hte top 5 websites for someone to get help! I hate to say it but most of my info comes from this site. People at work think I'm a computer guru and think i know "So Much" but really most of my "Guruness" comes from here! I'm just glad it's free! lol I'd love to donate money but i'm usually broke and i never charge to work on anyone's computer. I just wish i knew more about computers like ya'll do! But i just ,more or less, started working with comps about a year ago and i have about 30+ years to play ketch-up! But maybe learn to spell first! Big Big thanks!!!!

I would do the chipset drivers first.

  5. One more question...The biostar site says it will support a 478 533FSB HT up to 3.06. Is there anything i have to do to make it work...like move a jumper or new BIOS? The Biostar is no real help with anything with that info and i can't find anything about it on the web?!?!?! Just lots of adds and stuff. I can get a 3.06 HT pretty cheap ( have connections) and i can get a 2.8 478 free too but i think HT would be NICE!!!! If i get the 3.06 CPu can i drop it in and just go? Will the board just swith to a 533 FSB automatically? which i really doubt. Anyone ever mess with this board before so i can pick your brain? I know it was said it was a low end board but you can't beat free!!!!!! I trying to build it for my nieghbor and his kids, they don't have enough money for a comp and i figure if i move my wireless around they can use my cable net since i know theycan't afford the net either. So any help would be GREAT!!!

Used to be that way, but *most* boards nowadays are plug and play and detect the chip. If not, we can assist you in setting the board up to recognize the chip properly.

  7. well i can get most of this stuff for free or in trade. It probaly won't be used for anything more than surfing the web. I have a Dell 5150 with a 3.6 HT 2g's of ram that i got for $120 bucks...It's good to know people! But it's not a deal i get everyday...but i can get about anything for the 8668 free. I was just wondering? Thanks nayway!!:)
