This is my is internal notebook repair.
so far I have replaced keyboards and drives on dell notebooks.

Now I have a hp pavillon dv1000 that has a bad mb.

The power went out. I tested the battery on another notebook of the same kind and it worked. I then replaced the ac adapter and it worked for a few minutes and then just shut down. I mean the screen just went black and there was no power. Now it wont even turn on.

If its not the battery or the adapter, I figure the board has been blown. hp wants 380$ for a replacement and I think that's a bit much .

I would just get another but my aunt only wants this one. Its the only one she work on so I am trying to keep the peace.

    Any thoughts?

    THANKS

ebay? i don't think mobos for notebooks are generic, each is very proprietary to the manufacturers.

i am currently bidding for a board on ebay.

I'm so weary of ebay now.

    I was burned once.

you could also look to see if someone is selling an identical laptop that might have a cracked screen or something, then you will have a bunch of spare parts, including a motherboard. $380 is a bit much, considering you can buy a new laptop for just a little more....

another thing might be just that the plug part of the motherboard is bad. Happens alot, and it's a cheaper fix, and a little solder. sometimes the power cord gets bumped a little too much and damages it.

This is an old thread but I want to put some thoughts to it. I have been unable to find any kind of help on repairing the actual problem with the motherboard, but here is some information for the thousands that bought this POS from HP.
DV1000 has a major mobo issue, every one I have found has the same symptoms, no power, no lights, no nothing. Its not the ac adapter, or ram, or processor ect. Its a bad motherboard, the problem is if you buy a used motherboard on ebay it will have the same problem sooner or later.
Here is a potential solution most likely for the short term. pull the battery and power from it remove the case bottom and clean out the fan (no this is not part of the solution but its a good idea) then take your screw driver and snug up all of the loose screws on the bottom, there will be a few. Then plug in the power and the unit should turn on. Good, now replace the base and all of the screws except for the one that lives under the hard drive. It should still turn on, at the very least long enough to get data from it. Best of luck and never buy HP no matter how pretty it may be.
