Any type of movie causes halting redraw

I reformatted and reinstalled XP fresh last week and have noticed a slight hiccup regarding movie files. If I try and play any local movie files saved on my computer (mpeg, avi, doesn't matter what) or even any streaming/online movies from a webpage, my computer grinds to a halt. It's an odd visual effect... The screen still displays but everything appears frozen for a few seconds: then the window's titlebar will redraw slowly, then the title, then the border, and so on.

Basically, my computer acts like it's moving at 1% of its total speed until I use the task manager to quit the movie or browser. I've tried installing codecs to no effet, and I'm at somewhat of a loss since it's happening with both online and offline movies. I've never had this problem with any other time I've had XP installed, so I'm not sure what's changed this time.

Any ideas?

(I'm running XP Pro, have 1 gig of SDRAM, and am using a GF 7800GS.)

Try new video card drivers. Might help.

I already installed the most recent nVidia drivers when I reinstalled XP, but I suppose un- and reinstalling them couldn't hurt. I'll give it a go.

Ha, figures it would be something simple. I un/reinstalled my graphic and motherboard drivers and everything's much better now: movies and Photoshop are both silky smooth again.
