I have "Any Video Converter" on my laptop. It's a great program, but I can't make it so it will run when a different user logs on unless I give them the administrator password (not going to happen). If they click on it, it gives an error saying it can't access some files. It can be run from a user account, but only by using the "run as administrator" option. There should be some way to give the user permission to use the program without giving them my password. Anybody know how to do this?

If you right click the desktop shortcut, select "Properties" and click the "Security" tab, I think you can allow others to run the program by selecting users from the list provided and then changing the security policies for each user. You'll have to be logged in as the admin, and you might have to boot in Safe Mode depending on your version of Windows. XP Home (and probably Media Center) will probably require you to boot in Safe Mode. XP Pro should have the "Security" tab in Normal Mode, but if it doesn't, you should be able to accomplish the same thing by going to the Control Panel > Administrative Tools, then create policies for the other users to allow them to use the program. Unfortunately, I can't offer step-by-step on how to do this, but you should be able to figure it out fairly quickly.... good luck!

I didn't explain this very well in my original message. The program appears to try and run, but crashes with the following error:

Can not load output profile data from the configuration file "C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Roaming\AnvSoft\Any Video Converter\profiles_v2.xml"

Alex is the new user. The directory and subdirectories exist, but the file profiles_v2.xml does not.

Sorry I didn't get more specific to start with.

Ahhhhh... I see.... well, I just went to the AnyVideoConverter developer's web site and their online help is basically non-existant. However, they do have an email address for support and a FAQ and a Knowledge Base that may be of help. Check this link. Good luck!

(Can you simply install the program when logged in as "Alex"?)

The file 'profiles_v2.xml' can be found in the program installation path for ANV. Copy to the folder in the error and then run ANV. (I create a batch file so that non-tech users can run that, and fix the error themselves, as this problem seems to happen alot, and it saves having to do a re-install.)
