I'm on Windows 8.1 I'd like to extract all my browser's (Firefox and Chrome) saved passwords to a single text file for safekeeping, just in case I mess up and accidentally delete them from the browsers. Is there any way to do that?

Back up the Firefox & Chrome Profiles (to a USB stick or DVD-R) as they contain the passwords. Or use a free password manager.

Open your Chrome browser and from the top right Chrome menu button, select Settings. Alternatively, you can simply type chrome://settings in the address bar and hit Enter. Scroll down and click on Show advanced settings. Now scroll down to the Passwords and forms section and click on the Manage passwords link

Thanks. I have dozens of saved passwords, though. Is there any way I can just export all of them to a text file?

Just tried doing this, didn't work. Chrome would only allow me to import from Internet Explorer or a Bookmarks HTML File. Why can't I import from Firefox?

Thanks! Just downloaded and installed that. Funny thing, in the Web Browser column, it just says Chrome (and a couple for Internet Explorer) but none for Firefox. Any idea how come?

My best guess is there are no saved passwords in Firefox.
In Firefox check Options > Security > Saved Logins.

Had already done that. There are dozens.

Yes! That's exactly what I need, thanks!

This is OK just so long as the list doesn't ever fall into the wrong hands. Have you looked at LastPass or any of the other password managers? I use a 15 character LastPass password along with two factor protection which stops anyone attempting to use an unrecognised system to gain access. Been using it about five years, no issues.

LastPass is the best and you can also try "BitWarden" which is also a good one.
