A friend of mine has a compaq emachine and the other day he got a stop error of....0000009c (00000002, 8054d370, b6000000, 00020152).

he reported it to microsoft and they reported back that it was a hardware failure, and that ofcourse puts it out of their hands, so....i've been trying to do some research on it and I can't seem to come up with anything specifically related to x9c. Let alone translating the parameters yet.

    Any thoughts??

Not sure if you are using XP, but HERE is some information.

It's not very definitive, but may guide you in the right direction.

    Ah yes, the dreaded MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION.

It basically means that the CPU has detected that somethings gone wrong. I think this happens if the CPU gets a bad instruction or something, im not entirely sure.

It basically means that either somethings wrong with your CPU, your motherboard (well actually, a number of your motherboards components), your RAM or probably your BIOS settings. Set them back to defaults and see if that makes a difference. Also disable any memory caching or shadowing options in the BIOS.

Thanks...All of what's been said is kind of the conclusion i've come to.

Fortunately it has only happened once, and then it has been fine since, for about three weeks now, but that doesn't mean it won't happen again!! I'm going to flash the bios with an update and then we will sit back and wait, for hopefully, nothing!!

Only happenned twice, huh? You're pretty lucky. Before my computer went completely down I would get them almost every boot of windows. It was either that or a random reboot or the computer would just lock up. Except for when I had Age of Empires 3 Trial running in the background. Then Windows was completely stable. I know my computer had a hardware problem so how would this have stopped it?
