My partner is running xp on her lappy and until recently had no problems. However, all of a sudden when she tries to install new software - either from download or disc - it tries to install it to our remote drive, although even when that is on, it can't find the path to it!
Unusually, no option is given to alter the installation directory when trying to install new software either. There doesn't appear to be a problem with either of the softwares, as the same files have installed fine on my lappy which is running the same windows version.
I have been into registry and checked the ProgramFilesDir is set correctly, and to be honest, don't really know where to look next.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Paul

thanks for the answer - I have had a look through the system32 folder, but couldn't find anything that looked like helping the situation.
