I have a small collection ranging from Civil War to WW2. Anyone else collect them?

    Hi Tim

No but would love to see some pics of your collection, especially the Civil War ones when you get a moment?

Crap, David!! You want me to work?? LOL.

When I get a moment or twenty I will drag them out. Sadly enough, they had been forgotten in our last move and left in the barn wrapped up in paper. Most have gotten rust on the scabbards. I need to take a power sander to them to remove the rust spots!

Indeed Tim, you must have been slacking if you had time to start this thread ;)

Nah would be interesting to see your collection of these, well for me it would, but take pics when you have a spare momento.

It's not so much the spare moment as it is wading through all of our daughters crap piled in the room where the bayonets are stored!! Need a small plow to push a path to the cupboard. :-D:-D Maybe this weekend if I have the strength!!

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Tim, we've sold a couple of bayonets through the years in our antiques phases - none of them were in very good shape, though.

This is one I've got hanging in my shed with all the other heavy metal - blade's about 14", serrated on top - I'm guessing it was a bayonet, but it may have been hand made.

I have a Spanish Bolero (I think) bayonet. Would like to get one for my ARs, just to make the anti gun folks more uncomfortable. :-D I think mine likes Port. :-D

I have ones similar to each of yours. I need to get them out and take some pictures. Then do some research on them to identify the markings. Ah, no rest for the wicked. :-D

I dont see a bayonet in that pic, oh wait yes I do, hidden as a subliminal in the booze! ;)

But great pic and cheers for posting, what sort of weapon would that have been attached too?

  10. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Hmm, a Spanish rifle perhaps? :-D

Actually, it is a Bolo bayonet. A bit of quick research indicates it went on a 1941 Mauser.

Wow, have been tempted to buy an older Mauser... Now I might just have to. I need a gun to fit on my bayonet. :cool

This one cracks me up, I might get one as a joke one day. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...a=X&ei=t0ydTLazM4WBlAfhkr3ACg&ved=0CBoQ9QEwAA

If it gets down to where you need a knife on your Glock, you should have planned better, perhaps including a sword in your arsenal.

Cheers Fed for the info and the laugh.

LMAO at the Glock Bayonet!!!! good for close quarter battle but your enemy would likely just bash you on the head if you had run out of ammo and had to use the bayonet.

I don't know, if you gave a vicious yell, and had the Glock bayonet, they might die of laughter. :-D

Idle hands are the devil's tools. :-D Can't you make it a thumbnail that can be clicked on to see larger? What if I posted a tiny picture of a bunch of cakes, and you could not see the details... :eek

Tell you the truth Fred, I can't seem to make a thumbnail pic. Not sure if Picassa can do that or not. I will have to look into it.

I use Picasa, save them to a folder on my desktop, and link to them. That is how I did my photo in this thread.

Trying again. Looks like that worked even though they are way over the size limit.

Ahh! Those need cleaning or at least some oil! Nice collection, but gun oil is cheap.

Yep, more work for you. ;)

Nice to see your collection. .... I just happen to have the exact same bayonette that is the 3rd one up from the bottom in the first pic on the left of your 2 pics there. It's quite a piece. I am pretty sure it is from WWI. Mine has some French script writing, etched along the flat edge of the blade, closer to the handle. .... From what I can make out, it say's; "Mgre di temes de Lt Etiemen Mars 1879" .... I also have the original metal scabbard.

I used to have a WWII German Luftwaffe sword that was quite a prize, ...but I gave it to my military buff nephew as a gift. Wish I had some pics of that one, but unfortunately I never photographed it. Along with other WWII items, it was brought home after the war by my father at the end of his service.

    Here's another real prize that my father passed on to me. He took possession it from a German officers office in Berchtesgaden, Germany. It's a mint condition original "German Cross in Gold" medal in it's original case. It is very prized by Third Reich collectors;

    EDIT:
Oh well, ... I thought I could post the pics here, but I seem to be having trouble.

You know, it just occured to me that Major Geeks is probably the only place on the internet where discussions ranging from cloud computing to edged weapons can take place on the same forum and not seem odd . . . :)

    I love this forum! :major

I've seen a lot of those old replicas. I wanted to buy a Soviet one and a Nazi one. I mean, when I saw them, I was naive enough to think that they were really from that age. But they were good for replicas.

Well, about time for the MajorGeeks yearly bayonet collectors thread to be revived. A little early, but I like this one. Goes on a Yugo Mauser.

Nice looking bayonet Phantom. Not you just need a Lee Enfield to put it on.

Goozit, with some glue and duct tape, we can rig up your K-Bar to be a bayonet.

    :-D

Actually, I'd like to, but the things they attach to are so much more fun.
