    My computer will restart randomly and then when it reboots the page says this:

    Ga-7VT600 1394 F7
    Check System Health OK
    Main Processor : AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+
    <CPUID:0691>
    Memory Testing : 52488K OK

    IDE Channel 0 Master : WDC WD1600BB-00RDA0 20.00K20
    IDE Channel 0 Slave : None
    IDE Channel 1 Master : CD-ROM 48X/AKU T3A
    IDE Channel 1 Slave : None

    Detecting IDE drives ...
    Warning!! Some changes in chipset or clock settings caused boot failure. Defaults for these settings have been loaded.

    After this screen it asks me to press F1 and then might start up properly, or it will freeze or boot itself again.

    Any suggestions welcome

    Thanks;

    First thing to try is a new CMOS Battery CR-2032
    for the motherboard ... available almost anywhere
    for about $3 ... use a good one, such as Energizer
    and be sure the date on the package is far away.

    Run Memtest86 and see if there are any problems with the memory.
    If that is ok, next run the WD Hard Drive Diagnostics .. Your drive may
    be on it's way out. If the drive controller is an add in card, it may be
    going bad as well. Also, did you try swapping the power supply ? ? ?

    Memtest is free, but you will need to burn it to a bootable cd .. All
    instructions are on the site.

    A bootable CD is a CD that you burn yourself, then when it's in the CD drive and you power up the computer, it boots to the CD and runs whatever is on it. In this case it would be the program mentioned above. All the instructions apparently are at the link provided in bruceb's post above.
    Again.... this is a program you would download from the web and run it. It's probably like the memory diagnostic and must be booted to. You can find all the instructions and the program download at the Western Digital web site. That's the company that made your hard drive (I can tell by the model number in your first post) and you'd use this program to test the hard drive's overall health and integrity. Here's a link to Western Digital's support page:
    http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp
    Type your hard drive model number in the Search box and click 'search' and you'll be shown a list of downloads for your drive. Download the program that looks like it will do the most for you, or try them all! You'll see there's one that runs in Windows, one the is for booting from a floppy disk, and one that is for booting from a CD....
    Good luck!
