How does it compare to MS Explorer? Pros? Cons?

    Thanks

I started using Firebird then installed Firefox when it came out. IE doesn't support tabbed pages, which Firefox does. That is the biggest feature for me. I can't stand having all those windows opened up. The only problem I have is: plugins. You have to get all the plugins to make certain websites work. That's why I installed MyIE2. It does the same thing, but works off IE. Therefore, anything that will work with IE, will work with MyIE2.

The end result of having either browsers is more control. They also have ad killers.

I also use Firefox as my main browser.
But MS pretty much demands IE for updates so I keep it installed.
IE is slower and gets in my way pretty often.
    Firefox has better default settings.

    Firefox is super tweakable.

But it does have some quirks.

IE is more stable overall, IMO.

IE is stable and does not need to be tweaked and configured
everybody pretty much makes their webpages to work with IE

I have used the other browsers, and too much of a hassle with all the downloading of plugins just to get it to work right.

I like opera and IE never had a problem with either of them.

Firebird 0.7 was my main browser for a long time. I upgraded to Firefox 0.8 as soon as it came out, and I'm very impressed. Pages now load as fast as I remember Opera, and I've only had a few pages with problems in the weeks since installing. I've never seen it render something badly, although certain sites have features (usually JavaScript menus or forms) that don't work.

Get two plug-ins: Tabbrowser Extensions, and All-in-One Gestures. Those two alone make the browser as fully featured as Opera, MyIE2, or Avast.

Firefox is also cross-platform, and easily blows Mozilla 1.5/1.6 away (IMO).

    Problems:
    - It's beta software. No stability issues, but it's still beta software.
    - The browser is annoying without plug-ins, and installing them is a bit annoying since you have to get them manually. There ought to be a Extrention install/Update widget.
    - It loads slower than IE (but pages load faster).
    - Occasional (rare) nonfunctioning JavaScript menus or forms. Tends to be only a few sites, so I imagine it's something MS changed just for IE. Sites are still designed for IE.

You still need IE installed for Windows Update, and you'll have to keep it updated still. But Firefox is much easier to use after about a day.

I couldnt get mouse gestures to work with the extension installed in firefox.

But thats ok, because my mouse works far faster than any mouse gesture does :p

Which extension did you use? I know Optimoz defaults to the left mouse button rather than the rest of the world's right.

    The all in one gestures.

You said something that might be the problem. You have to left click for the gestures to work?

    Oops :p

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=54104 So is this good or is it bad? All this tinkering and fiddling why some love it and others say it is bloated crap etc.

Was it not for MyIE2 I would use Mozilla for sure but that shell is just too good :)

Mozilla 1.6 is bloated. Extremely. Firefox is much better, since they development is much stricter than the original Mozilla model. I suspect we'll never see Mozilla 2.0 as Firefox 1.0 will replace it.

There's also the problem that MS has stopped development of IE (evidence by ther cessation of development on the Mac and *nix versions -- they've stopped their browser war). IE isn't going to improve anymore. They'll continue to support it, but like Konqueror or whatever's in GNOME, IE will be relegated to a pseudo-browser for documentation once Mozilla advances far enough.

That means all of IE's broken standards will go away.

It won't happen until Firefox hits 1.0, Windows Longhorn is released, and W3C decides to set standard MS don't bother to implement into IE. But it will happen.

    Well, IMO.
