Anyone have DirecTV?

I'm sick of paying Comcast $75.00 a month just to watch local and basic cable channels. What a freakin rip. I don't get any movie channels, and only have one digital box.

DirecTV's deal is $39.99 per month. I checked out their website and it looks like they have all the same basic channels as Comca$t, including local channels. You get 3 boxes, but have to pay $4.00 extra for each box to have separate programming. Not bad considering Comca$t wants $10.00 for each additional digital box.

I do like the on demand movies, does DirecTV have that as well? Then again, Comca$t's On Demand doesn't get new releases until about 3 months after Blockbuster had the DVD.

My only concern is the quality. I've had decent service from Comca$t, just hate their TV monopoly.

To those who have DirecTV, how is the service? How is the picture quality? Would you reccommend them?

I understand that severe weather can sometime affect the picture quality. Is it pretty common for that to happen?

    Thanks, Steve

I have DireTV with Tivo. Have had it for a few years now. I get a ton of channels plus the local stuff and the picture is great. Vary rarely does it get affected by weather. It has to be one nasty storm outside for that to happen. They have a great selction of PPV movies as well. I am very satisfied with my switch from cable to DireTV, you couldn't pay me to go back to cable.

Bluesman, do you have more then one reciever? You can watch different stuff on each reciever, right?

Is that about what you pay a month, $39.00?

At the moment I only have one reciever. Its 39.99 plus 4.99 for Tivo I think. When you get additional receivers you can watch whatever you like on each one. I believe its around 4.99 a month for each addtional box.

I have Direct TV and cant wait for my contract is done. I cant stand it. The picture is ok, but not great. Cable's was noticebly better. If I get a bad rain storm (not snow) its gone. Nothing but a black screen. Snow? Forget it. And when its done snowing, time to go out and clean it off. Yes, it is saving me about 20 a month, but IMHO I could do without all the headaches. Plus, I have 3 kids, each additional hookup is extra, plus I would have to worry about the reciever in my boys' rooms. They are a bit on the destructive side.

I can say at lease every time it goes out I can still get on Major Geeks cuz I am hooked up with cable!

(Sounds like thegod1 did not have it installed correctly.?)
The only time my DTV goes out is during a very wicked Thunderstorm.

I've had satillites since the days of the 8 foot dish. hehe We had a satillite before the town I grew up in even had cable available. lol We have 4 receivers in the house & yes you can watch defferent programming on each one. Seems now when you order a Pay Per View movie, it plays on all boxes, not just the main box as it was before.

Ahhhhhh for the days of Primestar.

    P.S.

I use cable for internet & they are forever telling me they can offer me so much more than satillite can. pffff yea right. My neighbors were calling us to find out weather information during those Hurricanes we had a few months ago because thier cable was out. We never lost signal until the power actually went out, then as sson as the generator kicked on, the satillite was back on as well. We watched TV the whole night, while the storms was whippin outside. 112mph sustained winds & we were watchin the tele. had to wait for almost 3 weeks for them to come out & fix the cable so I could have internet, but we had TV. ;) You decide.

I got directTV and it rocks. everyone else is right about no response in severe thunderstorms. It has only happened to me twice in the last 3 years. It does take getting used to the delay when you switch channels though. But i recommend DirectTV over ComCast anyday.
